Let\u2019s look at the latest figures concerning Sri Lanka for each of these poverty lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n International Poverty Line<\/strong><\/a>: ($2.15 per person per day)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2023, the percentage of Sri Lankans living below the international poverty line was around 5.2%. The World Bank predicts it will decrease to approximately 4.7% by the end of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lower Middle Income Poverty Line: ($3.65 per person per day)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2023, the percentage of people living below the lower middle-income poverty rate was approximately 25.9%. The forecast for 2024 indicates a decrease to about 24.8%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Upper Middle Income Poverty Rate: ($6.85 per person per day)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2023, the percentage of people living below the upper middle-income poverty rate was around 66.6%. However, the forecasted lower middle-income poverty level above 22% until 2026 underscores the importance of implementing social welfare programs alongside necessary economic reforms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The World Bank report emphasises the need for concerted efforts to address poverty and ensure sustainable development.
