Meanwhile, a video was shared through social media paltforms, claiming to be President Anura Kumara, in a relaxing mood. However, our investigation found that it was a case of mistaken identity; the person in the video was not the Sri Lanka president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Social Media Posts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A short video clip was published on social media, purportedly showing President Anura Kumara Dissanayake relaxing alongside a woman,&nbsp; in what appears to be an upscale hotel setting, as seen below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe frameBorder='0' width='640' height='360' webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen src=\"https:\/\/www.awesomescreenshot.com\/embed?id=44603087&#038;shareKey=a5360ffc3c52bffd5170229c670208f2\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/rangavindana.jayathilaka\/videos\/1850106372579844\/?__tn__=%2CO\">Facebook<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The video was posted with the English translated caption, \u201c<em>The farmer\u2019s son is happy&#8230;.no problem, he didn\u2019t steal, it\u2019s from the presidential budget&#8230;&#8230;it\u2019s from our tax money&#8230; <\/em><em><\/em><em><\/em><em>\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"630\" height=\"841\" src=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-91.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16033\" srcset=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-91.png 630w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-91-225x300.png 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the requests we received to investigate the accuracy of this, we took steps to assess the credibility of this video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fact Check :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon examining the above video, we discovered that the original video was posted by the TikTok account named Sayumi Kaitlyn Perera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also included a note about the video, indicating that the person in this video could be her mother, Mary Bernard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe frameBorder='0' width='640' height='360' webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen src=\"https:\/\/www.awesomescreenshot.com\/embed?id=44602459&#038;shareKey=b8540730d1bd8a6c581c751af447ec57\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@sayumi_perera16\/video\/7553281910500281617\">TikTok<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people had responded to this video, indicating that the person in the short clip was Anura Kumara Dissanayake and resembled him, which could have been the reason for this clip to be used in a misleading narrative in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"562\" height=\"649\" src=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-90.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16032\" srcset=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-90.png 562w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-90-260x300.png 260w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 562px) 100vw, 562px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The video was also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DO9AF8FDKek\/\">published on the Instagram<\/a> account of Marie Therese Bernard, who was indeed the mother of the above TikTok account owner. Marie has captioned the video, \u201c<em>Me after a wedding. Chilling with family \u201c <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/tinyurl.com\/22kfpvm4\">Archived Link<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, when examining the other photos posted on Marie\u2019s Instagram account, it was clear that the person mistakenly identified as President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in the video bears little resemblance to the Sri Lankan president from some angles. She said that a video posted by her is misleadingly claiming to feature President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
