As Sri Lanka\u2019s swift efforts to rescue the passengers of an Iranian ship attacked by the United States drew international attention, many people praised the move. At the same time, some people expressed views on social media claiming that this action could bring unnecessary trouble to Sri Lanka from the United States and other countries that support the United States. Meanwhile, social media discussions also emerged claiming that Sri Lanka, despite not being directly involved in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, had been named alongside Middle Eastern countries as a risky destination for travel. Fact Crescendo therefore decided to carry out an investigation to verify the truth behind this alleged risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following numerous requests to verify the accuracy of this claim, we decided to investigate the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fact Check :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, we examined whether the Australian news channel 7NEWS had described Sri Lanka as a high-risk travel destination, as claimed above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our review found that 7NEWS was discussing global flight disruptions and high-risk travel zones mainly linked to the conflict in the Middle East. In that context, as shown on the map in the social media posts above, Sri Lanka was also marked as a country people should avoid travelling to, and the news presenters mentioned this as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
