An image which gets shared from time to time on social media circles in Sri Lanka, again made rounds. It was claimed that due to the lack of facilities at one of the \u201cTourist Comfort Center\u201d at a Sri Lankan railway station, a foreigner had resorted to rest on a trolley. However our investigation revealed that the image was shared with a misleading narration.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#abb7c280\"><a href=\"https:\/\/chat.whatsapp.com\/EI21pXU4BD7L4yiGYs3PIP\"><strong>Join our WhatsApp group<\/strong><\/a><strong> for daily fact checks!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Social Media Posts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A Facebook user posted the below photo, which seemed like a Railway Station in Sri Lanka with the caption <em>\u201c<\/em><em>Welcome to Sri Lanka<\/em><em>\u201d <\/em>in a satirical manner<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-9.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1853\" width=\"359\" height=\"417\" srcset=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-9.png 450w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-9-258x300.png 258w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 359px) 100vw, 359px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/young.up.3\/posts\/10223842266382625\">Facebook<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.awesomescreenshot.com\/image\/18668664?key=d5f4b48815dbdb80fd073bb1764ccc23\">Archived<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This image was shared initially back in 2018 as reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gossiplankanews.com\/2018\/03\/train-foreigners.html\">here<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We detected that many other Facebook users had shared the same image as seen below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"661\" height=\"441\" src=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-10.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1854\" srcset=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-10.png 661w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-10-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 661px) 100vw, 661px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of these posts had questioned the facilities of the&nbsp;\u201cTourist Comfort Centre\u201d&nbsp;of which only the name board was visible. Hence we decided to find out the facts related to this image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fact Check<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Firstly, using keyword and image search we identified the location of the viral image, which is a railway station called&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Pattipola+Railway+station\/@6.8548493,80.8311241,21z\/data=!4m12!1m6!3m5!1s0x3ae4786ab7aca353:0x7fad5f5288b5a756!2sPattipola!8m2!3d6.8558459!4d80.8306915!3m4!1s0x3ae479e20d8ce541:0x4401f1f1e3a03ff5!8m2!3d6.8548482!4d80.8312028\">Pattipola Railway Station<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;located 1897.5 meters above the sea level.&nbsp;It\u2019s considered as the Sri Lankan railway station located at the highest altitude from the sea level. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is an image from the Pattipola Railway Station uploaded by one of the social media users which resembled the background shown in the viral image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"436\" height=\"596\" src=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-11.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1855\" srcset=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-11.png 436w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-11-219x300.png 219w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 436px) 100vw, 436px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=10207010931327543&amp;set=a.10207010881886307\">Facebook<\/a> |<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.md\/zULlO\">Archived<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A video related to Pattipola Railway Station also confirmed that the viral social media posts were taken from this place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><iframe title=\"Pattipola Railway Station - Highest Railway Station in Sri Lanka\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2p2C_POg384?start=6&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Station Master &#8211; Pattipola Railway Station<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Station Master of the Pattipola Railway Station,&nbsp;Suranga Senadhira revealed that the image was indeed associated with Pattipola station and the incident had occurred back in 2018&nbsp;and misleading posts had been circulating ever since. Mr. Senadhira elaborated that the \u201cTourist Comfort Centre\u201d at the Pattipola railway station had been inaugurated towards the end of 2014 and still functions for the use of tourists.&nbsp;He added that the facilities of the Tourist Comfort&nbsp;Center are under constant supervision and are well maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the station master further revealed that foreigners often prefer to enjoy the scenic beauty of the picturesque Pattipola Railway Station and hence don\u2019t use the \u201cTourist Comfort Center\u201d located below the railway station as much. \u201c<em>Even, they are sometimes sleeping on the grass layers outside station\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>the station master&nbsp;added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order for us to get a better idea of the facilities at the Pattipola Tourist Comfort Center, Mr. Senadhira shared a few images of the location as seen below, which appear to be in decent condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"880\" src=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-1024x880.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1856\" srcset=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-1024x880.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-300x258.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-768x660.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image.jpeg 1429w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We checked the Google Maps Street View &amp;
