The MP addressed the Parliament for approximately seven minutes. In the opening portion of his speech, he stated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIt has been 18 years since Brigadier Balraj, a hero of our Eelam liberation effort, departed from us. This battlefield hero, born in Kokuttoduvai, Mullaitivu District, under his true name Kalliyaa Balasegaran was admired even by international military experts. I pay my tribute to him in this assembly.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The MP then went on to raise concerns about large-scale deforestation near the University of Vavuniya and issues related to rice importation. Those reports clearly recognized him as an ITAK parliamentarian, not a government MP. As one outlet reported:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cITAK MP Thurairasa Ravikaran paid tribute to former LTTE Military Commander Brigadier Balraj and similarly raised issues regarding state-sanctioned deforestation in the Vanni region and government policies affecting local paddy farmers.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further details <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tamilguardian.com\/content\/vanni-district-mp-ravikaran-remembers-brigadier-balraj-sri-lankan-parliment\">are available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To independently confirm which party Thurairasa Ravikaran represents, we checked the official Sri Lanka Parliament website. This confirmed that he is not a member of the ruling party and an MP representing the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parliament.lk\/en\/members-of-parliament\/mp-profile\/3538\">as verified here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"542\" height=\"490\" src=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-131.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18998\" srcset=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-131.png 542w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-131-300x271.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 542px) 100vw, 542px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We further checked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parliament.lk\/en\/members-of-parliament\/mp-profile\/3538\">the official website of the Parliament of Sri Lanka <\/a>&nbsp;to confirm which political party MP Thurairasa Ravikaran represents, and it was moreover confirmed that MP Thurairasa Ravikaran is not a member of parliament representing the current government and a member of parliament representing the Ilangai Tamil Arasu Party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"567\" src=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-130-1024x567.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18997\" srcset=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-130-1024x567.png 1024w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-130-300x166.png 300w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-130-768x425.png 768w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-130.png 1117w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ITAK MP Thurairasa Ravikaran Has Never Expressed Support for the Ruling NPP Government<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A review of MP Ravikaran\u2019s parliamentary record shows a consistent pattern of opposition to the NPP government, not alignment with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In April 2025, he publicly condemned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tamilguardian.com\/index.php\/content\/mp-ravikaran-slams-land-seizure-gazette-calls-it-betrayal-northern-tamils\">Gazette Notification 2430 (dated 28 March 2025)<\/a> issued by the NPP government, which he stated targeted 5,941 acres of Tamil-owned land in the Northern Province for state acquisition. The government subsequently <a href=\"https:\/\/ceylontoday.lk\/2025\/05\/29\/govt-revokes-controversial-northern-land-gazette\/\">revoked the gazette notification<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In March 2026, Ravikaran <a href=\"https:\/\/island.lk\/itak-mp-wont-accept-fuel-from-military\/\">refused to accept fuel allocations via the Sri Lanka Army<\/a> under a parliamentary fuel distribution scheme, stating that he would not accept services through a military institution he holds responsible for enforced disappearances of Tamil people. He formally notified the Secretary General of Parliament of this decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These actions demonstrate that MP Ravikaran consistently holds an anti-NPP position and that there is no evidence of him supporting any policy or action of the ruling party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>National People&#8217;s Power (NPP)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Given that the circulating video was framed as evidence of a government MP paying tribute to an LTTE figure, we also contacted the NPP\u2019s media division directly for clarification. They confirmed that Thurairasa Ravikaran is not a member of the NPP or the ruling government. He is not a member of the ruling National People\u2019s Power (NPP) government.
