Advances in healthcare, medicines and various other factors have increased human life expectancy gradually over the past couple of centuries. However, only a handful of individuals make it past 100 years of age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, stories of people living long years often get viral among social media users. However, the Factcrescendo Sri Lanka team found the posts of a person celebrating his 146-year birthday to be misleading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social media posts with images depicting an older person’s birthday celebration claimed that the incident was the celebration of his 146th<\/sup> birthday, as seen below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several other users shared the same post, and many assumed it was an actual incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fact Check<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

At first, we did a reverse image search and discovered that the person shown in the photo collection, Mbah Goto, had unfortunately passed away in 2017. Reports of the death of this individual, Mbah Goto, can be read here<\/a> and here<\/a>.  So, it\u2019s clear that the photos are not related to a recent birthday celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of death, this Indonesian senior was believed to be 146 years old, even though the exact details of the person’s birthday have not been verified. Mbah Goto is said to have celebrated his 146th<\/sup> birthday in December 2016 with his family members; details about it can be read here<\/a> and here<\/a> | Archived<\/a> & Archived<\/a>, and the viral photo collection from social media included photos from this occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
