However, Factcrescendo Team\u2019s investigation found these claims to be false.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Social Media Posts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The video below implies that the cause of a man getting electrocuted and then collapsing to the railway track from the station platform was his mobile phone headset. Hence requests that the public should refrain from using Bluetooth devices.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The video is shared with the below narration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cHe had a Bluetooth earpiece on; when<\/em> the phone rang, the earpiece was activated, and the high voltage current of the rail line was attracted to the earpiece,<em> and the current passed through his head. The lesson is don&#8217;t use Bluetooth earpiece near high voltage currents.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" webkitallowfullscreen=\"\" mozallowfullscreen=\"\" allowfullscreen=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.awesomescreenshot.com\/embed?id=13699908&amp;shareKey=96015da0825c73afb8cd498d778d5183\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/jeanne.abeysekera\/posts\/pfbid02PYRwxSBmDDsEwoyTVUg3WAk7eE4JPdNSGdLRXkkEFhGKbDJq2GtRAm6JEKjPtCp3l\">Facebook<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These videos were viral on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"459\" height=\"610\" src=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-12.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-12.png 459w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-12-226x300.png 226w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 459px) 100vw, 459px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Posts were viral on WhatsApp also.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"386\" height=\"367\" src=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-11.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-11.png 386w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-11-300x285.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 386px) 100vw, 386px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We decided to do a fact-check on this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fact Check<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The video posts state that the high-voltage electric shock via Bluetooth headphones was the reason for this unfortunate incident. Hence, we carefully analysed the video and noticed an electric wire falling on the person, as highlighted below in one of the frames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"637\" height=\"362\" src=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-10.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-10.png 637w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-10-300x170.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 637px) 100vw, 637px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We also did a reverse image search of the video frames using the Invid We-Verify tool. Then we learned that the incident occurred a month ago, in December 2022, in Kharagpur, West Bengal, India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"641\" height=\"343\" src=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-9.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-9.png 641w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-9-300x161.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesnownews.com\/india\/west-bengal-tte-gets-electrocuted-after-live-wire-falls-on-him-at-kharagpur-railway-station-watch-article-96079534\">timesnownews.com<\/a> I <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/pWbxL\">Archive<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On December 8, many Indian media outlets published news related to this video. <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Mr1gGTZoQqE\">Here<\/a> is a YouTube video narrating the actual incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In it, the Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) was standing on the train platform. Then an overhead electric wire snapped and fell on him. As a result of the shock, the TTE fell on the train tracks and got injured. His name is Sujan Singh. The reports stated that he was immediately admitted to the hospital with burn injuries; however, his condition was later declared to be stable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A freak accident &#8211; a long piece of loose cable, taken by a bird somehow came in contact with the OHE wire and the other end came down and touched a TTE&#39;s head. But air allows electricity to be passed through if the quantity of the charge is large and the distance is small. Such a situation is atmospheric lightning, where a very heavy charge passes through the air in a short period. This is known as Electrical discharge. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aboutmechanics.com\/what-is-breakdown-voltage.htm\">breakdown voltage<\/a> determines the minimum voltage necessary to force an&nbsp;insulator&nbsp;to conduct some amount of electricity. The breakdown voltage for air is around <a href=\"https:\/\/sciencing.com\/advantages-semiconductors-8476086.html\">20 kV to 75 kV.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Could headphones really electrocute one? Even though there is a remote chance, especially wired headphones, of electrocution, these are again very rare. Health authorities advise avoiding listening to music or talking for a long time while the phone is being charged and recommends using a Power Bank in unavoidable situations.
