His arrest resulted from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2023\/8\/5\/pakistans-ex-pm-imran-khan-arrested-what-you-need-to-know\">his conviction on charges related to the purchasing and selling state gifts<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following his arrest, social media platforms have been flooded with posts concerning Imran Khan. However, it&#8217;s important to note that some content among these posts was misleading and inaccurate. Let&#8217;s look at one such misleading video claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Social Media Posts\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>An emotional video featuring Imran Khan and the following quotes are circulating on social media. These posts on social media aim to portray that Imran Khan has suffered torture while in prison, damaging his eyes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cIK has been tortured in jail and one eye damaged. Please forward as much as you can.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe frameBorder='0' width='640' height='360' webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen src=\"https:\/\/www.awesomescreenshot.com\/embed?id=19922634&#038;shareKey=d8f09f71c5dd39d7467e3aa0b0463297\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/shahid.astori.71\/posts\/pfbid02M6Fkeb3gjsrRJr4tpxCMPNyyTuvVuH8jrpYqWHf5jyiKLKjgs3pSyWVSVzL9WfDEl\">Facebook<\/a>| <a href=\"https:\/\/www.awesomescreenshot.com\/video\/19922634?key=d8f09f71c5dd39d7467e3aa0b0463297\">Archived<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The video was viral among WhatsApp users in Sri Lanka as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/image-25.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8102\" style=\"width:520px;height:366px\" width=\"520\" height=\"366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/image-25.png 807w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/image-25-300x211.png 300w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/image-25-768x541.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We decided to do a fact-check on this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fact Check&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The circulating video clip featured the URL and logo of a media outlet called &#8220;We News,&#8221; based in Pakistan. We conducted a keyword search on their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@wenewspk\">YouTube channel<\/a> and identified a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=o20p3D1seu0\">video<\/a> resembling the viral one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within the clip, Khan&#8217;s voice could be heard discussing the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), a coalition formed in 2020 by 11 political parties, including Pakistan&#8217;s People&#8217;s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League (PML), aiming to remove then-Prime Minister Imran Khan from office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Subsequently, we located a more extended version of Khan&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lNSIyR3AkyM\">interview<\/a>, posted by &#8220;We News&#8221; on 1st August. This video contained the visuals that are currently circulating widely. In this video, Khan addressed the ongoing Toshakhana trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s important to highlight that the video predates Khan&#8217;s arrest. Notably, Khan&#8217;s eyes were not closed in this video, implying that the viral clip had been edited.
