However, many of these posts are either false or misinterpreted out of context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is essential to be critical of any information you see online and to verify it from multiple sources before sharing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Social Media Posts&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A video circulating on social media claims to show the Israeli Air Force attacking the Re&#8217;im music festival and killing Israelis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The video caption reads, \u201c<em>Footage from Israeli Occupation Airforce show it was the IDF that took out its own citizens with Apache Helicopter on October 7 at the music festival.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe frameBorder='0' width='640' height='360' webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen src=\"https:\/\/www.awesomescreenshot.com\/embed?id=22351307&#038;shareKey=1158828fc66dcd244661eaa709d933dc\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/tara.cummins.7712\/posts\/pfbid09rYG1tkKFjwHryHHf7QowceoccPvPjeYAK1s5nnfPRxyCxB9q2zfiuAMowURLpRil\">Facebook<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.awesomescreenshot.com\/video\/22351307?key=1158828fc66dcd244661eaa709d933dc\">Archived<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We decided to do a fact-check on this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fact Check&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We began the investigation using the Invid-We-Verify tool and found several international media reports and credible posts on \u2018X\u2019 related to this video. Accordingly, international media outlets such as \u2018Newsweek\u2019 have reported that the video depicts the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) attacking Hamas militants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Newsweek, the video appears to show Israeli AH-64 Apache attack helicopters\u2019 bursts of gunfire and Hellfire air-to-ground missiles zoning in on Hamas targets in an unspecified location. The Newsweek report can be read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/israel-apache-helicopter-hamas-hellfire-missiles-gaza-1833372\">here<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20231110072002\/https:\/www.newsweek.com\/israel-apache-helicopter-hamas-hellfire-missiles-gaza-1833372\">Archived<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imanuel Fabian, a defense correspondent for the Israel Times newspaper, has also reported that the video shows the IDF striking Hamas militants as they streamed across the breached border from Gaza on October 7. Towards the end of the video, a group of men crossing the border and being attacked can also be seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">New footage published by the military shows IAF combat helicopters striking and shooting at Palestinian terrorists infiltrating into Israel on the morning of October 7 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/hnP1s6GGGa\">pic.twitter.com\/hnP1s6GGGa<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Emanuel (Mannie) Fabian (@manniefabian) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/manniefabian\/status\/1713555453840400672?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 15, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20231110072336\/https:\/twitter.com\/manniefabian\/status\/1713555453840400672\">Archived<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The video shows missiles hitting cars, trucks, motorcycles, and people on foot as pilots report hundreds of gunmen sweeping into Israel to attack nearby communities, the Times of Israel reported. <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20231110072537\/https:\/www.timesofisrael.com\/liveblog_entry\/idf-publishes-footage-of-helicopter-gunships-hitting-hamas-terrorists\/\">Archived<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, \u00a0there have been few reports, like that of <a href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/content\/israeli-forces-shot-their-own-civilians-kibbutz-survivor-says\/38861\">this interview with Yasmin Pora<\/a>, a survivor of the bloodshed at Kibbutz Be\u2019eri near the boundary with Gaza, that state that Israeli forces could have unintentionally killed their own. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She states that Israeli civilians &#8220;undoubtedly&#8221; were tragically killed by their own security forces during the intense confrontation while the Hamas fighters were trying to take back the captured Israeli hostage inside Gaza. The same was detailed in this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ynet.co.il\/news\/article\/b111niukzt\">Israeli news report<\/a> as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Re&#8217;im music festival<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Re&#8217;im music festival was a psychedelic trance festival in Israel on October 7, 2023. The festival was attacked by Hamas militants, who killed at least 260 people and took captives back into Gaza.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The attack began in the early morning hours when militants infiltrated Israel via motorized paragliders and jeeps. They then opened fire on the festival attendees, who were primarily young Israelis celebrating the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. Many of the victims were shot in the back as they ran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The militants also blockaded roads and took control of bomb shelters, preventing people from escaping. The massacre took place amid a rocket siren, signaling a barrage of rockets fired into Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Re&#8217;im music festival massacre was among the deadliest terrorist attacks in Israeli history. It was also a significant escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has been ongoing for decades.
