However, alongside these advancements, there has been a concerning trend of manipulated videos circulating on social media, exaggerating the capabilities of robots. Our investigation aims to shed light on this phenomenon and explore the impact of misleading content on public perceptions of AI and robotics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Social Media Posts&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The viral video with the caption &#8220;What will happen to the people with the advancement of technology?&#8221; purportedly shows a robot making a mockery out of the shots by two human badminton players and eventually winning an easy rally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe frameBorder='0' width='640' height='360' webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen src=\"https:\/\/www.awesomescreenshot.com\/embed?id=23782359&#038;shareKey=ec6aae23eb44d9f9c16376b5fbd2a93a\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/colombotimesofficiallk\/videos\/411002707926175\/\">Facebook<\/a>| <a href=\"https:\/\/www.awesomescreenshot.com\/video\/23782359?key=ec6aae23eb44d9f9c16376b5fbd2a93a\">Archived<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is another instance of the same viral clip claiming to be &#8220;Robi playing badminton&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"682\" height=\"688\" src=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-29.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9931\" style=\"width:437px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-29.png 682w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-29-297x300.png 297w, https:\/\/srilanka.factcrescendo.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-29-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 682px) 100vw, 682px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This video was widely shared on WhatsApp also, and many guessed these scenes to be real scenes, while others were sceptical, assuming the clip to be edited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon thorough investigation using the InVID-We-Verify tool, we found that the viral video was altered and misleading. The original video, uploaded by a Chinese badminton Facebook page approximately two to three weeks ago, shows that the purported robot is actually a human who was defeating a mixed couple in a badminton match, as seen <a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/reel\/887823813022422\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.douyin.com\/user\/MS4wLjABAAAAObvWAkRNPhYEDz5To7aaKWEcIJpqWy3pn5BDE0pe0l8?modal_id=7311889992702348554\">original video<\/a> uploaded to Douyin (Chinese&nbsp;TikTok) on 13th December 2023. The player showing amazing moves is Zhang Tianyu, a national badminton athlete in China.
