The Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, announced an extension for public servants to submit postal voting applications for the 2024 Parliamentary Elections. Initially set to expire at midnight on October 8, the new deadline is now 12:00 midnight on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

The extension comes in response to potential delays in postal services and numerous requests made to the Election Commission. All postal voting applications must be submitted to the relevant District Election Offices by this deadline.

To ensure timely receipt, the Election Commission urges applicants who complete their forms on October 9 or 10 to avoid using the postal service. Instead, they should hand-deliver their applications, sorted by district, directly to the Returning Officers of the appropriate District Election Offices, securely enclosed in separate covers.

It was stressed that any postal voting applications received after the 12:00 midnight deadline on October 10 will not be accepted under any circumstances.
