Social Media Posts
Last week, a Threads user posted a message stating that “30 minutes ago, fishermen in the Chesapeake Bay discovered a suitcase in the water containing human body parts,” accompanied by images of David Beckham with his daughter Harper Beckham and a suitcase by the seashore. The post has received over 1,500 likes so far.
The claim has been spreading both on Threads and Facebook.
Fact Check
We began investigation by using key terms regarding this claim, and found that the only widely reported case of suitcases containing human remains being found in the Chesapeake Bay occurred in May 2004. At that time, three suitcases containing the dismembered body of William McGuire were discovered, which led to the conviction of his wife, Melanie McGuire, known as the “Suitcase Killer”. The 2004 case involved a single male victim, William McGuire, and is not a recent event, it happened over 20 years ago. (Source: ABC)
Using reverse image search, we found that the suitcase image is from the mentioned case in 2014, see here.
As of May 5, 2025, no reputable news sources or police reports have mentioned finding any suitcases containing human remains in the Chesapeake Bay. Claims connecting such discoveries to David or Harper Beckham are completely unfounded.
On May 4, 2025, Victoria Beckham posted a family picture celebrating David’s 50th birthday on May 2, featuring their children Romeo, Cruz, and Harper Beckham.
Using celebrity images in sensational claims is a common clickbait tactic. We have debunked several claims linking tragic events to global celebrities, such as Will Smith, Justin Bieber‘s accidents, or even Sylvester Stallone‘s passing. As seen in this claim that the poster attach link that claiming to lead to the full news story to attract viewers, but clicking these links redirects users to unrelated online shopping sites.
Conclusion
Recent social media posts claiming that a suitcase with human remains was found in the Chesapeake Bay, and linking it to the Beckham family, are completely false. As of May, 2025, no reputable news outlets or police departments have reported any such discovery.
