Six political parties, currently embroiled in disputes over their party secretary positions, have been disqualified from participating in the 2024 Parliamentary Elections. As a result, they are ineligible to submit nomination papers as recognized political parties.

According to the Election Commission, out of 83 registered political parties, only 77 remain eligible to contest in the upcoming General Elections. A Gazette has been issued, listing the 77 recognized parties allowed to submit nomination papers, as well as the six disqualified parties.

The Election Commission has also published the names of the secretaries of the 77 parties eligible to contest in the 2024 General Election, scheduled for November 14.

Among the parties disqualified from contesting as recognized political entities are the United People’s Freedom Alliance, Eksath Lanka Maha Sabha Party, Eksath Lanka Podujana Pakshaya, Lanka Janatha Party, Sri Lanka Progressive Front, and Eelavar Democratic Front.
