Humans usually like to help each other, especially when someone becomes sick; others around him try to cure him in various ways, from blood donations to money donations. With the development of technology, social media is being used to gather people who like to help patients in various ways. However, some social media posts seeking patient help sometimes mislead the public. This is our investigation about such.

Social Media Posts

Social media posts state that a doctor attached to Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital is receiving treatments at Nawaloka Hospital for a rare type of leukemia. The posts claim that the doctor needs six blood donors daily, specifically individuals with blood type B-, which is considered rare. And also, it says the doctor's family is inconvenient as it's not easy to find six blood donors daily, and they are requesting the public to come and help them by donating B- type blood to the doctor.

The post was also circulated in the Sinhala language in January 2022.

We decided to do a fact-check on this.
