Due to the unique natural beauty of Sri Lanka , it has become a destination of many tourists. Local and foreign tourists are also attracted to ancient and modern constructions in the country. Because of this, Sri Lanka is chosen for the shooting of international huge cinema productions.

In the meantime, there is a misguided note circulating these days regarding a film shoot taking place in the ‘Ella’ area of Sri Lanka, and below is our fact check on this.

A mainstream media reported a news stating “Shooting of the movie “SINGHAM AGAIN” in Ella - trains will be restricted” and it was circulated on social media as well.

The Railway Department of Sri Lanka had issued an official announcement that train operation on the upcountry railway from Colombo Fort to Ella railway station has been restricted from October 9th to October 15th due to the shooting of a joint Indo- Sri Lanka film on the nine-arched bridge between Ella and Demodara.

However, there was no mention of the name of the film being shot, and many assumed that the film currently being shot in Sri Lanka is the Hindi film “Singham Again.”



Why was it assumed that the shooting of Singham Again is taking place in Sri Lanka?

Singham again or Singham 3 starring the biggest stars of Hindi cinema is going to be released worldwide on November 1st in conjunction with this year’s Diwali festival and the trailer of the movie was released on September 7th. The trailer of Rohit Shetty’s huge movie has already caught the attention of many people.

However, this Indian movie has attracted the attention of people as it has been shot in places like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kashmir and some places in Sri Lanka’s valuable architectural places like the Colombo Lotus tower, ShangriLa Hotel, Galle Face, SeethaEliya in NuwaraEliya, Seethai Amman, Thirukkovil.


Due to this many people assume whether the shooting of the same movie or another part of it is happening in Sri Lanka these days.

Shooting in Ella is for another Telugu film!

In order to find out about the shootings taking place near Ella nine arch bridge these days, we made an inquiry to Ashan Rajasuriya, the monitoring officer of the National Film Corporation, who had reported on it.

He mentioned that it is the shooting of a Telugu film called ‘Mirayi (2025)’ that is taking place these days. He also mentioned that a group of 69 foreigners have come to Sri Lanka for the filming of it and forwarded us the letters stating that the permission has been obtained for it from the Film Corporation of Sri Lanka.




In that also the name of the film is stated as ‘Mirayi’.

The media channel ‘Rupavahini’ had reported about the shooting of the film and here is another news report about it.

Ashan Rajasuriya, the monitoring officer of the National Film Corporation further stated that the shooting of the movie, Singham Again took place in several locations in the country and the shooting was completed a few months ago.

A schedule for the passengers during the time of the shooting.

Railway Deputy General Manager (Traffic) N.L. Mr. Indipolage mentioned that during this period, trains on the Upcountry railway will only run from Colombo to Ella, and necessary steps have been taken to run buses for passenger transport between Ella to Badulla.

He says that arrangements have been made to deploy luxury buses for the passengers of Odissi train who have reserved seats and for the passengers who have reserved seats in the first class of the regular train, and that it does not cost the Railway Department.

The ‘Podi Menike’ train that departs from Colombo at 5.55am and the Odissi train that departs from Colombo Fort at 5.30 am will depart as usual and they both will reach Ella.

He also mentioned that the ‘Podi Menike’ train and Odissi train from Badulla to Colombo will start from Ella railway station. Apart from this Mr. Indipolage mentioned that the train that departs from Badulla to Kandy at 11.00 am will also start from Ella.

Apart from this, the night mail trains will also depart as usual.




The concerned film production company will pay 230 lakh rupees to the railway department and has also made a security deposit of 48 million rupees.

The railway department has received the request to shoot the film in the nine arch bridge and the surrounding area about a month ago and they have informed that they need a time from 9th to 15th for the filming.

He also mentioned that this film is a Telugu film in India and that it will be dubbed in 18 languages and there will be a huge tourist attraction to nine arch bridge in Sri Lanka when the film is being showcased worldwide.

Our investigation shows that the rumors that Indian movie “Singham Again” is being shot in Ella in false. It is a Telugu film that is being currently filmed in Ella named “Mirayi” and it is confirmed by the National Film Corporation.
