This video was shared alongside numerous hashtags related to Buddhism and titles such as ‘Bollywood Superstars' Messages for the Great Vesak Festival', features Bollywood film superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Kangana Ranaut, and Sonam Kapoor. They purportedly recite various teachings of Lord Buddha in honor of Vesak. You can watch the video below.

We decided to investigate whether these quotes are genuinely attributed to Lord Buddha and whether this video was created explicitly for the Vesak festival.

Fact-Check:

Upon examining these statements on the Internet, we discovered that while Lord Buddha preached many similar ideas, however, the specific statements mentioned by the Bollywood stars were actually made by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, renowned as the father of India's freedom struggle and nicknamed the father of non-violence. So, it was Mahatma Gandhi who made these statements.

The above statement, “I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.” A statement made by Mahatma Gandhi. A UN report published in this regard is here.

The second statement, “The weak can never forgive. Here is the Times of India news article that confirms that forgiveness is the attribute of the strong,” was made by Mahatma Gandhi.

The third statement, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others," is also in the Times of India news report published by Mahatma Gandhi here.

The fourth statement, "I am prepared to die, but there is no cause for which I am prepared to kill", is also a statement of Mahatma Gandhi.

Reports like these confirm that the saying, "A man is but the product of his thoughts; what he thinks, he becomes," is indeed attributed to Mahatma Gandhi.

"Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony." Mahatma Gandhi also made this statement as the sixth point above. A related report can be read here and here.

The seventh statement above, “You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; "if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty" is also a statement of Mahatma Gandhi. Reports on that are here and here.

Therefore, it is evident that Lord Gautama Buddha did not make the statements mentioned above.

Our examination of the video revealed that it is not a Vesak video from this year. Instead, it is a two-minute reflection on Mahatma Gandhi's teachings, produced and directed by Rajkumar Hirani. This video, featuring major Bollywood stars, was created to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th anniversary in 2019.

The video in Hindi can be found here. Additionally, here is a clip from when the local media reported on it.

Furthermore, the original video lacks an image of Lord Buddha in its background. However, the version circulated on social media within our country prominently features an image of Buddha. It's evident that the version including Buddha was deliberately edited to deceive society, masquerading as Vesak messages from Bollywood actors.

Conclusion:

The video shared on social media, purportedly featuring messages from Bollywood stars for this year's Vesak festival, is misleading. In truth, it is a clip from a video production commemorating Mahatma Gandhi's 150th anniversary in 2019. Furthermore, while these messages are presented as Lord Buddha's teachings in our country's circulated video, they are, in fact, statements made by Mahatma Gandhi.
