Viral video does not show Hamas militants entering Israel territory instead the video is from Egypt.
The Palestinian armed group Hamas has launched the largest attack on Israel in years, infiltrating areas in the south of the country following a barrage of more than 2,000 rockets fired from the Gaza Strip. “We are at war,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a televised address, declaring a mass army mobilization.
Amidst this ongoing war between Israel and Palestine, social media platforms are being flooded with old and unrelated video of the recent at Israel. The video showing a group of parachutists landing on a building is widely circulating on social media with the claim that it shows Palestinians fighters entering Israeli territory amidst the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine.
The caption of the video states, “NEW FOOTAGE: Palestinian Freedom Fighters seen parachuting down into Israel Territory”
Fact Check-
We started our investigation by running a reverse image search on one of the key frames from the video. The results led us to few Twitter users who commented that the claim made along with the video is false. The tweets mentioned that the video is not from Israel but from Egyptian paratrooper trainings outside their corps headquarters.
Keeping this in mind, we ran a keyword search to find the Egyptian Military Training Academy. The results led us to the Military College in Egypt on Google Maps.
Below you can see the comparison between the building seen in the viral video and the Egyptian Military School available on Google Maps. The similarity confirms that the viral video was shot in front of the Egypt Military School.
We used Google Lens and Google Translate to read the sign board written. The results mentioned that it reads “Military College”. We also compared the logos seen outside the building and Egyptian Military College logo. This shows that the viral video was not shot in Israel but was shot in Cairo, Egypt in front of the Egypt Military College.
Conclusion-
Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the video to be false. The viral video does not show Palestinians fighters entering Israeli territory amidst the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine. Instead the video shows a scene of parachutists landing in front of the Egypt Military College.
