Many social media posts and videos are being shared through various platforms, scaring the users, and we noticed that these are sometimes shared be various groups.
Accordingly, as a video of people disappearing has been circulating on social media these days, we conducted a fact-finding investigation regarding that.
Social Media :
A video was posted on social media showing several instances of people disappearing at once.
The video was published along with the phrases, “Several cases of missing people that are still unsolved today, cases that have no answers to existing science, and that only those who can see the spiritual world has answers to” (“අදටත් නොවිසිඳුනු මිනිසුන් අතුරුදහන් වීමේ සිදුවීම් කිහිපයක්, පවතින විද්යාවට පිළිතුරු නැති, අධ්යාත්මික ලෝකය දැකිය හැකි අයට පමණක් පිළිතුරු ඇති සිදුවීම්”).
Are these videos real? Here’s what we’ve done to verify the facts about this video.
Fact Check :
These images were checked through Reverse Search Image and we found that many people around the world had shared these videos on social media.
The video was shared in a way that suggested a strange phenomenon, but no proper source or credible foreign media outlet had reported on such an incident.
However, further investigation into the video revealed that the original video was posted on the website of Turning Point Ministries, a Christian organization founded by visionary pastor David Jeremiah.
In addition to the videos shared on social media, a number of other videos of people disappearing were shared on the website.

Further examination of the website revealed that videos of such disappearances were posted by the Christian organization, Turning Point Ministries, for religious purposes. These videos have been posted to promote their religious organization and to attract people to their religious message, and an explanation was also given on their website regarding that.
As stated on the website, their aim is to arouse the curiosity of viewers as such videos attract the attention of viewers, and make them view the website, thereby spreading their divine message called ‘Rapture’.
The Rapture, which means ‘taking up’, is a concept in Christian theology, particularly held by some Evangelical and Protestant groups. They believe that Jesus will one day return to Earth and bring Jesus’ followers back to heaven with him. This is the religious view promoted by the Christian organization founded by Pastor David Jeremiah.
We were also able to find how Pastor David Jeremiah himself posted a video of school students disappearing from a bus on his Facebook account on September 19, 2023. (Archived | Fb)
The note he left when posting the video is as follows.
“We do not know the day or the hour of Christ’s return at the Rapture. But one day billions of people will suddenly vanish from the face of the earth. Are you ready?”
Accordingly, he does not mention where or in which country this incident took place nor does he mention whether this a true incident. Similarly, if a number of students disappeared at once as shown in the video, it would be a major news that would be reported in a very controversial manner in the foreign media.
However, there has been no such reports in the foreign media.
Furthermore, when closely examining the circulated video, it is found that the woman’s scream heard at one point of the video, can be heard in every subsequent frame. Through that it is clear that these videos have been edited.
Similarly, other fact checking teams have also conducted investigations into this video and you can refer to them here and here.
Shannon Mann, a spokesperson for the Christian Organization Turning Point, told the Associated Press, when he was questioned about the video, that the videos were not real recordings, but they are “CGI dramatization”. This means that this video uses Computer Generated Imagery (CGI). It is a representation created using special effects and fiction to convey their message and to show what the ‘Rapture’ might be like, based on Bible prophecies and the teaching of Turning Point.
CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) is digital graphics created by computers for scenes that are too expensive, dangerous, or impossible to film in real life. These are widely used in CGI films, video games, and animations.
Below is an explanation made on YouTube by a foreign person, stating that the showcased incidents are not true.
