Our investigation shows that this video combines unrelated earthquake footage from multiple countries and falsely presents it as a recent London event.

Fact Check

While the UK rarely experiences major earthquakes, there has been some recent seismic activity worth noting. Most notably, three small earthquakes occurred near Schiehallion mountain in Scotland on April 7, 2025. These tremors happened within six hours, measuring 1.8, 0.6, and 1.0 on the magnitude scale. Though small, people could feel these quakes because they occurred close to the surface, causing some roof tiles to rattle and making rumbling sounds.

To put this in context, the UK usually has between 200-300 earthquakes each year, but people only notice about 20-30 of them. The largest recent earthquake was relatively minor; a 2.0 magnitude event in Yorkshire on March 18, 2025. This is much smaller than the UK’s strongest recorded earthquake, which was a 6.1 magnitude event in the North Sea in 1931. Importantly, there was no 6.7 magnitude earthquake in London on April 5, 2025, despite what the viral video claims (Source).

Summary

The shared video purportedly showing a 6.7-magnitude earthquake in London on April 5, 2025, is false. Records show that while the UK has experienced minor seismic activity recently, including tremors in Schiehallion in early April, there was no earthquake in London during this period. The video consists of footage from previous earthquakes that occurred in Ecuador, Japan, and Brazil.
