The video went viral on YouTube and other social media platforms, and many questioned its veracity.

Fact Check

Original Source and Context: Through an InVid-We Verify search, the original source of the video was identified. We learnt that Rovman Powell did indeed hit ten sixes in a T20 match against the England cricket team in 2022. However, these sixes were not hit consecutively in a single over, as depicted in the viral video. The original video can be watched below.

West Indian player Rovman Powell is, however, displaying an exceptional batting performance in this instance. Throughout the entire match, he hit ten sixes and scored 107 runs in 53 balls. English bowler Liam Livingstone was also one of the severely targeted in that innings, where Powell managed to hit 4 out of his ten sixes against him. These four sixers also came in 3 overs.

Even in the ball-by-ball analysis of the West Indian innings of the match, it appears that out of the ten sixes that Powell hit in that T20 innings, only 4 were hit against Liam Livingstone.

Manipulated Footage: The viral video is altered. Footages of Powell's sixes from different parts of the match were cropped and edited together to create the false impression that he hit six sixes in one over.

Commentary Mismatch: Further scrutiny of the viral video revealed that the commentary accompanying Powell's supposed feat is actually from a different cricketing match. It is commentary related to Yuvraj Singh of India hitting six sixes in one over against the England cricket team in 2007, where Ravi Shastri was the commentator, a former Indian batsman who himself had achieved the rare feat of six sixers in one over.

Verification Against Known Records: Rovman Powell's name does not appear in any official records or lists of cricketers who have achieved the feat of hitting six sixes consecutively in one over. This provides additional evidence that the viral video is not authentic. An article related to this can be read here.
