Recently, a video claiming to show “The Bee Gees’ grandsons” performing a song garnered significant attention, with replies ranging from admiration to skepticism.
Social Media Posts
Multiple social media users have shared a video claiming that the performers are the Bee Gees’ grandsons. The video went viral on Facebook, TikTok, and X platforms.
Fact Check
We began fact-checking by searching for the origin of the video and found that it was performed by Ky Baldwin, an Australian singer and actor. Baldwin created this video using special effects to make it appear as if multiple versions of himself were performing together.
Baldwin is known for creating similar videos. In July 2023, he made a Backstreet Boys cover using special effects to create multiple versions of himself performing “I Want It That Way.” He shared this on his TikTok channel with the hashtag #vfx in his caption.
Later in 2023, people started sharing his cover of “How Deep Is Your Love” and claiming it showed the Bee Gees’ grandchildren performing (see example here). Baldwin later addressed this directly in an October 2023 TikTok video, explaining that he is an only child and has no connection to the Bee Gees family.
Real Descendants of the Bee Gees
While the Bee Gees’ members – Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb – do have grandchildren, none of them are known to perform online covers like the ones in the viral video. The family continues the Bee Gees’ musical legacy in different ways though. For example, The Gibb Collective released a tribute album in 2017, where Maurice’s daughter Samantha Gibb and other family members performed their own versions of Bee Gees songs. Barry Gibb, who is the only surviving member since Robin passed away in 2012, has occasionally performed live with his sons Stephen, notably during the 2014 Mythology Tour (see here).
Conclusion
The viral video claiming to show the Bee Gees’ grandsons performing is misleading. The video actually features Australian singer Ky Baldwin using special effects to create multiple versions of himself performing. While the Bee Gees’ musical legacy continues through their real family members, they are not involved in this particular viral video.
