Over the past week, a viral incident involving Astronomer’s CEO Andy Byron at a Coldplay concert sparked widespread social media attention. In the aftermath, a supposed public apology attributed to Byron began circulating online. However, our investigation reveals that this viral statement is entirely fabricated.

Social Media Posts

An image circulating on social media purports to show a public apology from Andy Byron, former CEO of Astronomer, dated July 17, 2025. The purported statement describes an incident at a Coldplay concert and contains messages to the individual’s family and company. The text includes a lyric from a Coldplay song and comments on matters of privacy.

Fact Check

Astronomer, the data platform company Byron led, issued multiple official statements addressing the incident, but none confirm that Byron made any public apology. In fact, the company explicitly denied the existence of such a statement.

In a LinkedIn post dated July 19, 2025, Astronomer stated that “Andy Byron has not put out any statement, reports saying otherwise are all incorrect.”

Astronomer reinforced this message across all their social media channels. At the same time, they announced that Byron had been placed on leave while they conducted a formal investigation (see the post here). Then on July 20, Astronomer announced that Byron had resigned from his position and Pete DeJoy would take over as interim CEO (see the post here).

In their statement about the resignation, the company emphasized their commitment to high standards of conduct and leadership, but they never mentioned any apology from Byron. According to CNN, Byron has neither responded to the news outlet nor issued any statement.

Moreover, Ry Walker, the former CEO of Astronomer, responded on his X account stating plainly that the viral statement is “super fake.”

The Coldplay Incident: Key Events

According to various media reports, a video from a Coldplay concert showing Andy Byron went viral, leading to significant public reaction. Without providing specific details, Astronomer initiated an investigation into the incident, which ultimately concluded with Byron’s resignation.

While addressing the situation, Astronomer also took steps to correct misinformation, particularly noting that another individual (Alyssa Stoddard) had been incorrectly identified in the video, as clarified in their official statement.

Our investigation indicates that Andy Byron has not issued any public apology following the Coldplay concert incident. Multiple sources, including Astronomer’s official communications and Ry Walker’s statement, suggest that the apology statement circulating on social media is not authentic.
