
Environmental photography has become very popular in the world with the development of science and technology. However, sometimes, in social media, misleading contents spread saying those are environmental photographs. This is our investigation related to such a misleading photograph.
Social Media Claim
A Facebook user uploaded a photo on social media with the caption “Frozen Spider Web”. The post has been shared more than 200 times by Facebook users along with a mixture of comments and reactions. Some social media users expressed their comments, believing the photo is the capture of a natural being.
Below is a capture of the Facebook user’s post with a caption read: “Frozen Spider Web.”

We were able to detect the similar type of images spreading throughout the Facebook space.

Due to the curious nature of these posts, we decided to do an investigation on this.
Fact Check
At the beginning we did a reverse image search and was able to find a source of this image. This photo originally belongs to the official Flicker account of the Helsinki Zoo, Finland.

From reading the description, we were able to get aware that this photo depicts an ice sculpture which was created by Michael Kaloki and Timo Koivisto in 2011 at the competition “art meets ice 2011”.

Conclusion
According to our investigation, we were able to find out that the image of viral social media post does not depict the frozen spider web, but it really depicts the snow sculpture, created by two artists at Art Meets Ice-2011, Competition at Helsinki Zoo, Finland.
