One photograph has been racing through Sri Lankan Facebook and Instagram feeds: a man whose entire body appears remade into that of a dog, said to be a 26-year-old Japanese billionaire named ‘Jaso’ who spent US$2.7 million on surgery and tattoos to get there. It is the kind of image you cannot scroll past without a second look. We investigated. Here is what we found.

There Is No Billionaire Named ‘Jaso’

There is no evidence of a 26-year-old Japanese billionaire named ‘Jaso’ (or Jason), no record of anyone undergoing such surgery, and no trace of anyone spending US$2.7 million to acquire canine features, as the posts claim. No medical sources and no international news organization have reported any such procedure.

The Photograph Was Created Using AI

The ‘human  dog’s image in the post is not genuine. It was fabricated with artificial intelligence, and the tell-tale flaws are visible: look at the distorted feet and slippers of the person in the background. The picture blends the features of Mexico’s hairless dog breed, the Xoloitzcuintli, onto a human body.

What Actually Happened

The fabricated story appears to borrow from a real, entirely different incident reported from Japan in 2022. A Japanese man named ‘Toco’ underwent no surgery at all. He paid Zeppet, a special-effects company specializing in animal costumes, two million yen (around US$15,000 at the time) to build an extraordinarily realistic ‘Border Collie’ dog costume, which he films himself wearing purely as a hobby. More details are here and here.

Conclusion

The claim that a Japanese billionaire spent US$2.7 million to become a dog through surgery is entirely false. The photograph circulating with it is AI-generated.

The genuine incident behind the story is Toco’s: he paid about two million yen (roughly US$15,000) for a hyper-realistic dog costume he wears as a hobby. He never underwent any surgery to become a dog.
