The Parliament was dissolved by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, effective from midnight on the 24th of September.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake issued this gazette announcement in terms of the powers assigned to the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka under Article 70 of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka per the provisions of Section 10 of the Parliamentary Elections Act No. 1 of 1981. මෙම ගැසට් නිවේදනය

Accordingly, the newly elected parliament will be commenced on the 21st of November 2024 and the new members will be elected on the 14th of November.

The nominations for the Parliamentary election will be accepted from the 4th of October until noon on the 11th.

1981 අංක 1 දරන පාර්ලිමේන්තු මැතිවරණ පනතේ Under the Section 16 of the Parliamentary Elections Act 1981, the Election Commission has announced the information regarding the security deposits by independent groups, number of candidates to be nominated by political parties or independent groups for each district, the number of members to be elected for the constituencies for the parliamentary election, the number of candidates to be nominated through a nomination paper and the security deposit to be deposited by an independent group.

2020 Parliamentary Election

The last parliamentary election was held in 2020. The Sri Lanka People’s Front won the most number of seats in the Parliamentary Election. The other parties that won parliamentary seats are Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Ilankei Tamil Arasu Kachchi, National People’s Power, Eelam People’s Democratic Party, All Ceylon Tamil Congress, Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal, Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Muslim National Alliance, All Ceylon Tamil Congress, All Ceylon Makkal Congress, National Congress, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, United National Party, and Ape Jana Bala Pakshaya.
