SOCIAL MEDIA CLAIM
Below is a screenshot of a claim circulated on Facebook today, featuring some photos of Jason Statham with the caption that reads “SAD NEWS: 30 minutes ago, / The family announced the sad news of action movie legend Jason Statham.”
Another claim circulated on Facebook last weekend stated that the movie actor died after he joined a rescue effort in a Texas flood. See the full caption of the claim here (archived).
Yet another claim said that the actor was killed in a tragic road accident along with his wife. Below is a screenshot from such a claim shared on Facebook featuring photos of Jason Statham, along with the caption that reads “SAD NEWS: 30 minutes ago, at the age of 47, the wife of action movie legend Jason Statham announced the sad news that he had…”

FACT CHECK
Fact Crescendo investigated the claim by running image reverse search and consulting reliable reports from reputable international media outlets, which led to the following findings.
By using Google Reverse Image Search to verify whether the images associated with the claims above are related to the incidents leading to Jason Statham’s death, we found that these images are not connected to the English actor. All the images are from events that occurred years before the claim circulated on social media platforms.
Jason Statham, 57, is a renowned English actor best known for his roles in action films. Given his international fame, any news of his death would be widely reported by major global media outlets, particularly by leading entertainment networks in the United States and the United Kingdom.
However, a Google search to see if there are any news reports about Jason Statham’s death shows no reliable information at all. Several media outlets had reported on the upcoming movies of the film star.
After checking Jason’s official Facebook page, we found that no announcement of his death has been posted on social media. His latest post on his Instagram account, three days ago on 14th July, shows Jason Statham and his family recently enjoying a vacation in Positano, a coastal municipality in Italy.
According to a report (archived) from an Australia-based media outlet, no public statement from Jason Statham’s family has been found in connection with this claim.
The report also stated that the claim is a hoax, widely circulated on social media using the names of various celebrities, including prominent figures from the football industry.
In addition, this claim was investigated by an Australian fact-checking outlet, and Agata Stepnik, a digital expert at the University of Sydney, was quoted in the AAP report, saying that these hoaxes and false claims can be used for fraud and scams in addition to their clickbait purpose.
