Similar claims went viral on X as well.
Fact Check
1. 1991 & 2003 Photos Shared as Recent Snow at Lords
We conducted a reverse image search for viral photos and found them listed on Getty Images, credited as being taken in February 1991 and January 2003, respectively. This confirms that the pictures do not represent the current weather conditions at Lord’s.
2. Local Confirmation
We contacted local residents near the Lord’s Cricket Ground to validate the current weather conditions. They confirmed there has been no snowfall in the area recently.
Additionally, recent social media posts featuring Lord’s Cricket Ground clearly show a green pitch and surroundings with no signs of snow, further debunking the claim of recent snowfall.
3. Photographs Taken Recently in Lords Ground
Some social media users posed for photographs in the Lord’s Ground recently, and no snow cover appeared in the photos.
3. Statement from MCC
The media manager of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which oversees Lord’s, confirmed that no snowfall has occurred at the ground recently. He also pointed out a critical detail in the viral image: the Warner Stand visible in the photo is the old version, which was replaced with a new structure in 2017. This means the photo is outdated.
4. Weather Conditions in London
Looking at the weather during the first week of December, the temperature in and around the Lord’s Ground, London, has been around 5-10°C, well above freezing, making snowfall impossible. The Accuweather forecast for December 2024 is seen here. The UK Met department’s forecast for the upcoming week is here.
However, even though snowfall is not expected anytime soon, the UK’s National Weather Service states that Storm Darragh is forecast to bring powerful winds and heavy rain to the UK, including London, through the weekend, as seen here.

Conclusion
The viral photo collections claiming to show recent snowfall at Lord’s Cricket Ground are misleading. While one viral image dates back to 1991, another was taken in 2003. MCC officials also confirmed that no snow has fallen at Lord’s recently, and the viral photos are outdated.
Current weather conditions in London, around Lord’s ground, are not conducive to snowfall, with temperatures around 5- 10°C. However, heavy winds and rainfall are expected in many parts of the UK in the coming days.
While snowfall at Lord’s is not unusual during peak winter months, these claims do not reflect the current situation. Social media users should exercise caution and verify content before sharing.
