Viral posts of cricket fans around the world mourning over the death of South African batsman David Miller’s daughter went viral since last night (October 8th ). These posts originated following an Instagram post by Miller himself and few of the mainstream international media had also reported this as the death of Miller's own daughter.

However, Factcrescendo Sri Lanka’s investigation found these claims to be misleading as it was only an ardent fan of Miller that had passed away, and not his own daughter.

David Miller, who is currently running through a rich vein of form, is in Ranchi (India), taking part in the ODI series between India & South Africa. He shared a short clip on his Instagram handle on 8th October, which included his memories with a little girl battling with cancer alongside an emotional caption "RIP you little Rockstar, Love you always!"

David Miller also mentioned about the tragic demise of this little girl via a story on his Instagram alongside a photo of him holding this little girl.

Miller wrote, "Going to miss you so much my skut! The biggest heart I’ve ever known. You took the fighting to a different level-always incredibly positive and with a smile on your face. A cheeky and mischievous side to you. You embraced every person and every challenge in your journey. You taught me so much about cherishing every single moment in life! I feel humbled |to have walked a journey with you. I love you so much,"

After David Miller shared this video on his social media handles, his fans and media outlets were misled and declared that it was Miller's own daughter who had passed away. As a result, DNA, Sports Tiger and many other media organizations reported that David Miller's daughter had passed away, as seen below.

However, several fans tweeted blaming these media organizations and fans for spreading fake news, without verifying the facts, saying that the heart touching post and video was not about the death of Miller's daughter, but the death of a young fan dearest to him, after battling with cancer for a few years.

“Sport breeze”, a social media handles which publishes news related to sports personalities, initially published the misleading posts as they too were misled by Miller's social media posts. However after Miller had made an comment clarifying the inquiries, stating as "Not my daughter", they had published the same as seen here. Miller’s comments were highlighter by one Twitter user as seen below.

We searched about the personal life of David Miller and could not find any official details about his marriage. However, many sites reported that the 33 year old cricketer is still unmarried. Such reports can be reached from here and here.

Conclusion

Our investigation shows that the posts which claimed that the daughter of famous South African cricketer, David Miller had died of cancer is false.

These posts originated after David Miller’s fans were misled by the social media posts by Miller himself. However, the unfortunate death was not of Miller’s own child, but one of his dearest little fans named Anne who was fighting cancer for several years.
