In the 2024 presidential election, more than 700,000 voters were eligible for postal voting. It is reported that 736,589 voters have applied for postal voting, of which 24,268 have been rejected. Election Commissioner General Mr Saman Sri Rathnayake has said that all the documents related to the postal ballot will be forwarded to the relevant institutions on the 26th of August. September 4th has been fixed for the eligible employees of district secretariats, election offices, and the police to cast their postal votes. September 5th and 6th have been reserved for the other eligible government workers to cast their votes. The government workers who cannot cast their vote on those two days can vote on September 11th and 12th.

The most eligible postal voters are from Kurunegala District—around 76,000—while around 55,000 applied from Kandy and Anuradhapura districts each.

In the 2019 Presidential Election, 717,871 voters applied for postal votes, and 58,841 were rejected. A total of 659,030 were selected for the postal voting. Accordingly, compared to the 2019 Presidential Election, the number of voters eligible for the postal voting this time exceeds last year’s count.
