Many social media posts and news regarding the NPP MP Nilanthi Kottahachchi are circulating through social media platforms from time to time. Below is an investigation we conducted regarding a recent claim based on a viral image.

A photo was shared on social media purportedly showing Parliamentarian Nilanthi Kottahachchi bowing down and greeting former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The above incident was also circulated on social media as a video, as follows.
We took steps to verify whether the person in this photograph is actually Mrs Nilanthi Kottahachchi.
Fact Check :
We drew our attention to the photo’s context to investigate this matter.
We found that this photo was taken from a wedding album on the official Facebook account of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The photo album was published with the caption, “I became a witness to the new beginning of Radishan Siribaddhana and Manushi Senaratne and blessed them. I wish them a happy future with love.” Therefore, we checked Radishan and Manushi’s wedding photos on social media.
Accordingly, many celebrities have also attended this wedding. Meanwhile, since Mr Ranjan Ramanayake had also attended the event (Archived Link), we asked him whether Mrs Nilanthi Kottahachchi had attended the wedding, and he stated that she was not seen at the ceremony.
We also inquired with several other artists, and they also said that Mrs Nilanthi Kottahachchi was not seen attending the wedding and that the wedding was of an acquaintance of the Rajapaksa family.
To further confirm this, we contacted the mother of the groom by phone, who confirmed that the person in the circulating photo is her sister’s daughter and is not Nilanthi Kottahachchi. The groom’s mother also stated that their families are close to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and that no one with connections to the JVP/National People’s Power attended her son’s wedding, and that Mrs Nilanthi Kottahachchi was not invited.

We also inquired with Mrs Nilanthi Kottahachchi about this photo, and she said she was not the person in the circulated photo and that she did not attend the wedding, nor did she know about it. She has also posted a statement on her Facebook page.
Before posting the above statement, Mrs Kottahachchi had responded to the circulated social media post, stating that the photo had been generated using AI.
But the photo above is not AI-generated; it is a real photo.

Later, another post was published stating that the woman in the photo had been arrested for impersonating Nilanthi Kottahachchi.
However, these claims are also false, and the Kottahachchi lookalike lady seen in the photo has not been arrested, as confirmed by the family sources and police.
The police and her family confirmed that.

Conclusion :
Our investigation shows that the photograph circulating on social media, purporting to show National People’s Power MP Nilanthi Kottahachchi greeting former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, is not of her. This has been confirmed by those who attended the wedding, including the groom’s mother.
