This fact check addresses a viral claim that Jeffrey Epstein files state Joe Biden is dead, as circulated on social media.

A post was published on social media with the statement, “According to the Epstein Files, the real Joe Biden is dead. They are literally talking about Joe Biden being shot and killed in 2019 and replaced with a body double wearing a mask”.
The shared social media post states that, according to Epstein’s document database, Joe Biden was shot and killed in 2019, and a masked body double was used in his place. This post has been widely shared across social media platforms both in Sri Lanka and abroad. As a result, we took steps to verify its accuracy as follows.

The US government recently released millions of new files from its investigation into the notorious financier and convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein. Accordingly, the list of the world’s richest and most powerful people with ties to the now deceased Jeffrey Epstein has grown further.
The latest document, known as the “Epstein Files”, was released on January 30th and includes three million pages, 180,000 photos, 2000 videos, and the names of several world-famous figures such as Richard Branson, Bill Gates, and Elon Musk.
International media outlets such as CBS News and Forbes have reported on these leaked documents, but there’s no mention of Joe Biden in them.
The Digital Democracy Institute of America has also published a statement claiming that false claims are circulating regarding Joe Biden in the Epstein documents.
We searched the Epstein documents database released by the US Department of Justice using the terms “Joe Biden Death” and “Joe Biden body double or clone,” but found no record of Joe Biden in these narratives in those documents. You can access those files here.
However, in Epstein’s report number EFTA00173266 (now removed) published by the US Department of Justice, there was an email stating that Joe Biden had died in 2019 and that a replica of his image had been made.
However, US President Donald Trump, on his Truth Social account, had posted an unfounded conspiracy theory that former President Joe Biden was assassinated in 2019 and replaced by a robot clone. Trump has been known to share misinformation and unproven conspiracy theories for years, and international media outlets have expressed their displeasure with this, this, and this.
There is no evidence that Joe Biden died in 2019 or that a clone of him currently exists.
The American president must undergo a full medical examination once a year, and the reports are released to the public. According to the report issued by President Biden’s doctor Kevin O’Connor in 2024 at the White House, he has been confirmed to be fit for duty. A clone or someone else cannot avoid genetic changes in such medical reports. The full medical report is here.
While Joe Biden’s facial wrinkles, skin tone, and gait from 2019 to 2024 show the natural signs of aging, a clone or mask cannot show this natural progression so realistically.
Limitations of cloning technology
Although animal cloning is scientifically possible, human cloning cannot instantly recreate the appearance of an adult person of the same age as the deceased person.
If Biden died in 2019, it would take 80 years for a Biden clone created in 2019 to reach 80 years of age. However, such technology has not yet been discovered to create an adult clone instantly. A study conducted by Scientific American on this topic is available here.
Also, Joe Biden is actively engaged in politics, including giving statements to the public and media, and research has shown that there is no technology in the world to create such a live clone that can react like a real human being. Also, cloning can only obtain the genetic structure (DNA) of the person and does not transfer the person’s memory, knowledge, experience, or speaking style through genes. Accordingly, it is proven that a clone of Biden would not naturally possess his political knowledge or past memories.
Also, human cloning is banned in over 70 countries around the world for ethical and legal reasons, and maintaining such a secret project hidden from the world for years is considered impossible in the scientific community.
