The unfortunate news of a Yeti Airlines plane crashing in Pokhara, Nepal, sent shockwaves throughout the world during the last few days. Much content has been shared on social media since this tragic incident; among them, some misleading content is also being shared.

Fact Check:

A 72-seater passenger aircraft crashed while landing on the runway of the Pokhara International Airport in Nepal on the 15th of January. As per ANI, 68 passengers and four crew members were on board the Yeti Airlines aircraft that crashed between the old airport.

Nepalese authorities on Tuesday started handing over the bodies of the deceased. According to the Nepal Army sources, two more persons are still missing, and the search operation is continuing. As one more body was recovered from the accident site at Seti River gorge in Pokhara valley on Monday night, the sources said the total number of confirmed deaths had climbed to 70. However, the above video, shared on social media, was not seen in the international mainstream related to the Nepalese plane crash.

A reverse search of the video's keyframes led us to multiple media reports from August 2021 that contained the same video. As per these reports, the video showed the prototype of a Russian military transport plane, Il-112V, that crashed before landing near Kubinka airfield in Russia's Moscow on August 17, 2021. Media reports about this can be read here, here, and here.

Aviation analyst Alex Macheras mentioned the above incident and posted the following video on Twitter.

The fire in the right engine of this plane is considered to be the leading cause of the incident. Additionally, reports indicate that two test pilots and a flight engineer were killed in the accident.

It was also confirmed that the above video was filmed near the Kubinka Airport in Moscow, Russia.

Around 26 seconds into the viral video, we noticed a church with green tombs. And at the mark of 36 seconds, we noticed the flight crossing two red- and white-colored towers (likely telecom towers). With the help of Google Earth, we were also able to locate the church and the two buildings near Kubinka airfield.

In the hours after Nepal's deadliest plane crash in 30 years, a video went viral in India. It showed one of the victims, Sonu Jaiswal, live streaming from the plane just seconds before the crash.
