A video from inside an aeroplane going through severe turbulence went viral on social media claiming it to be the footage of the plane moments before the crash in Ahmedabad recently.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The viral video is old and unrelated to the Ahmedabad plane crash. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to an Instagram post where the viral video was uploaded on 28 September 2024.
We could see “Airbus A321” written on the pamphlet behind the seats. But the Air India flight was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Although the post didn’t mention any specific time or place of the incident, it’s clear that the video is old and unrelated to the Ahmedabad plane crash.
Moving forward, we found the same viral video uploaded on a YouTube channel on 7 October 2022. The caption of the video reads, “Footage from inside an Airplane as It Goes through Air Turbulences”
Further, we found a TikTok post where the viral video was uploaded on 10 May 2022. Since TikTok is banned in India, with the help of our Sri Lankan team, we could check the video. The screenshot of the TikTok video can be seen below.
We couldn’t verify the exact location or time of the video, but it’s clear that the viral video is old and unrelated to the Ahmedabad plane crash.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video is old and unrelated to the recent Ahmedabad plane crash. The video has been available on the internet since at least May 2022.
