We decided to do a fact-check on this.
Fact Check
First, we checked mainstream media reports mentioning that the US Ambassador in Sri Lanka plans to end her term in Sri Lanka. However, we did not come across such details, and there was no mention of the possible end of tenure in Ambassador Julie Chung’s or the US Embassy in Colombo’s official social media handles either.
Furthermore, the US Embassy in Colombo confirms that the US Department of State had not taken any decision to recall Ambassador Julie Chung to Washington, and the Tweet is entirely fake.
Nominated by U.S. President Joe Biden and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Ambassador Julie Chung assumed duties as the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka in February 2022.
The US Ambassador, Julie Chung, has been targeted multiple times over the past few months on social media circles, with several accusations based on false details and satirically altered tweets.
