A viral video supposedly showing thousands of Japanese protesters marching in support of Gaza has gained widespread attention online. Many social media users have shared this footage as proof of massive demonstrations taking place in Tokyo. However, our fact-checking reveals that this video is AI-generated. While Japan has hosted some genuine pro-Palestinian protests recently, this particular video was created artificially using AI technology.
Social Media Posts
Multiple social media users shared a video claiming it showed demonstrations in Japan in solidarity with Gaza.
Fact Check
No Credible Media Coverage
Major Japanese and international outlets have reported on demonstrations in Tokyo supporting Palestine, but none have covered an event resembling the viral video. The protest as depicted would likely have received coverage from Japanese and international media if authentic. The lack of reporting from credible sources suggests the footage may not represent an actual event.
Furthermore, the Nippon Communications Foundation, which monitors narratives about Japan in Arabic media, directly addressed the clip. In a post on X platform, the organization clarified that the circulating video does not show a real demonstration in Japan and was instead fabricated using AI. The message translates to: “Sorry, this is not Japan. These are AI-generated clips now widely circulating on social media.”
Visual Analysis
Also, we used Reverse Image Search feature to trace to the origin of the video, which led us to a TikTok account (@hassan_morningstar) that has posted multiple AI-generated protest clips. The original footage originated from two posts published on July 29. (See here and here)
These include staged scenes allegedly set not only in Japan but also in the UK and South Korea. Two such examples can be viewed here and here. The consistent style and artificial-looking visuals clearly indicate AI generation rather than actual footage.
Additionally, we submitted a screenshot from the video to Decopy, an AI image detector, which confirmed that the scene were likely created by artificial intelligence.
Protests in Japan
While this AI-generated video is fabricated, real pro-Palestinian demonstrations have occurred in Japan. In July 2025, several hundred protesters assembled in Tokyo’s Shibuya district with “Free Palestine” chants and criticism of Israeli military operations in Gaza. Another demonstration followed in early August 2025 in central Tokyo, where participants protested conditions in Gaza and advocated for Palestinian statehood.
Conclusion
Upon our fact-checking, we found that the viral video is AI-generated and does not depict a real protest in Japan. While genuine pro-Palestinian demonstrations have taken place in Tokyo, they were significantly smaller in scale than what the fabricated footage portrays.
