In the wake of India’s deadliest air disaster in nearly three decades, misleading videos are spreading rapidly online.
On Thursday, more than 260 people were killed when an Air India passenger plane bound for London crashed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The airline confirmed there were 242 passengers and crew on board, with only one survivor. The plane reportedly struck a medical school dining hall on the ground, where dozens of students were present, resulting in additional casualties. The incident marks India’s worst aviation tragedy since 1996, and one of the most fatal crashes worldwide in recent years.
Shortly after the news broke, several dramatic videos began circulating on social media, claiming to show the final moments before the crash. However, our investigation reveals that these videos are not authentic. In fact, both viral clips were taken from unrelated aviation incidents.
Footage 1: Facebook Live Video – Actually from Nepal, 2023
Warning: This content contains potentially disturbing or graphic imagery. Viewer discretion is strongly advised.
A viral video on Facebook, shared with the caption “Facebook live video before Ahmedabad, Gujarat plane crash on 12 June,” claims to show a real-time recording moments before a recent air crash in India.
The footage is not from any incident in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, nor is it related to a crash on 12 June 2025. It is actually an old and widely reported video from Nepal, recorded just moments before the Yeti Airlines Flight 691 crash on 15 January 2023.
The viral clip was originally a Facebook Live video filmed by a passenger aboard Yeti Airlines Flight 691, an ATR 72 aircraft traveling from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Tragically, the plane crashed while on final approach to Pokhara International Airport, killing all 72 people on board. The video captures the cabin moments before impact and has been authenticated by multiple news outlets including The Guardian and BBC.
Footage 2: Turbulent Cabin Footage – Fly Jinnah, Pakistan
The second video, often bundled with the same claim, shows passengers screaming and struggling during severe turbulence. This footage is real but unrelated to any crash or India-based event. It shows a Fly Jinnah Airbus A320-214 (registration AP-BOV) operating Flight 9P842 / FJL842 from Karachi to Lahore on 24 May 2025.
The plane encountered severe turbulence and a go-around while attempting to land in stormy weather at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport. Following air traffic control instructions, the cockpit diverted the aircraft back to Karachi. No injuries or crash occurred. (Source: New York Post)

Conclusion
The viral videos claiming to show a plane crash in Ahmedabad are demonstrably false, using footage from two unrelated aviation incidents: the 2023 Yeti Airlines crash in Nepal and a turbulent Fly Jinnah flight in Pakistan.
