A viral social media post claims that Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa visited Kandy General Hospital, where he personally cleaned a poorly maintained lavatory during his inspection of Ward 43. The story describes the minister taking the initiative to clean the lavatory himself after discovering its unhygienic condition. The posts were spread This incident reportedly occurred at 10 a.m. on a recent day. However, we fact-checked the claim to verify its accuracy.The posts has been spread since the today`s (November 23rd ) morning and implicates that incident happen on yesterday (November 22)
We decided to do a fact-check on this.
Fact Check
To verify the claim, we conducted the following investigations:
1. Contacting Kandy General Hospital
We contacted Dr. Iresha Fernando, the Director of Kandy General Hospital. Dr Fernando confirmed that the minister did not visit the hospital yesterday, as implicates in the viral post. She further stated that she was attending a workshop that day, and no such event involving the minister occurred at the hospital. She added that no ward is prevailing in the hospital named ” Ward 43.” She elaborates Minister Nalinda has not visited the hospital since his appointment as health minister.
Kandy hospital also published FB post regarding this in their FB page.
2. Verifying the Minister’s Schedule
We inquired with the Presidential Media Division (PMD) regarding Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa’s whereabouts on yesterday in question. The PMD confirmed that the minister was in Colombo and had not visited Kandy General Hospital at any time that day or after he was appointed as health minister.
3. Checking Media Reports
We searched mainstream media outlets for any reports about the minister’s supposed visit to the hospital. No credible news source reported the event described in the viral post. Given that such an incident would likely attract significant media attention, the absence of reports further casts doubt on the claim.

Conclusion
The claim that Health Minister Dr Nalinda Jayatissa cleaned a lavatory during a visit to Kandy General Hospital is false. The hospital director and the Presidential Media Division confirmed that the minister was in Colombo on the day in question, and no evidence supports the story.
