Fact Check:

Many of our readers asked us to check if this information is true. So, we decided to investigate this claim.

Checking the Post Shared Facebook Account

When we checked the Facebook account that shared this post, we found it was created under the name “Gayantha Herath.” This account had no other posts except this one post about solar panels.

Checking the Website

When we clicked the link provided in the post, we discovered something important. The website was not an official government website. Instead, the creation of a free blog page was done using a free service provided by Google’s Blogger platform (blogspot).

When we went to the contact section of the website and clicked on it, it took us to what appeared to be a gambling website. We also noticed that the company name mentioned was “Ceylon Metro Engineering.”

Checking about the Company

We then researched the real company called Ceylon Metro Engineering. We found that there is an official, registered solar panel company in Sri Lanka with this name. You can visit their official website at: https://metroeng.lk/home/

However, when we checked their official website, there was NO mention of:

  • Free solar panel installations, or
  • Earning 80,000 per month

Instead, their official website clearly explains the legitimate services they offer and how customers can save money through solar systems.

Checking Their Facebook Page

When we visited Ceylon Metro Engineering’s official Facebook page, we found very important information. They had posted warnings about this exact scam back in November of the previous year. They warned people not to believe fake posts using their company name and told people not to be tricked by such false information.

  • The website mentioned in the scam post is a fake website using their company name
  • They have never made any such announcements about free installations
  • They warned people not to trust these fake websites or call numbers connected to them

Cybersecurity Warning from Sri Lanka
