Death hoaxes targeting social media personalities are a recurring and deeply harmful form of misinformation online. When a video began circulating claiming that popular Sri Lankan content creator 3Posha Family had died in a road accident, it spread rapidly, causing distress to followers and flooding the creator with phone calls from concerned friends and fans. Below is our fact-check of that claim.

Fact-Check:

If a well-known social media personality had passed away, the news would have been reported by mainstream media and confirmed through official sources or the creator’s own social media handles. Our investigation found no credible source confirming the death of the content creator known as 3Posha Family. We therefore examined their social media pages directly.

The Posts Claiming 3Posha Family Has Died Are False

3Posha Family responded personally by publishing a video on their own page, confirming that the posts claiming they had died are false. In the video, the creator stated that a fabricated death hoax about them had been spreading on social media, and that the volume of concerned phone calls received as a result had caused significant personal distress. The video was published to confirm, directly and publicly, that they are alive.

Footage From a Real Accident in Kakirawa Was Used to Fabricate the Video

The misleading video contained not only a photo of the 3Posha Family creator, but also footage of what appeared to be an actual road accident. We investigated the origin of that footage and found that it had previously been reported by a mainstream media outlet.

The accident footage was from an incident in the Miriswatte area of Kakirawa, in which an elephant was struck by a cab vehicle. The elephant died because of the collision. This incident was reported by mainstream media, as seen here.

It is therefore clear that the fabricated video was created by editing a photo of the 3Posha Family creator into footage of this unrelated Kakirawa road accident, producing a false and misleading narrative about their death.

This is not the first time such fake death videos have been created about Sri Lankan social media personalities. A similar instance that we previously fact-checked in Sinhala, is available here.

Conclusion:

Our investigation confirms that the posts circulating on social media claiming that content creator 3Posha Family has died are false. The creator himself confirmed this by publishing a video response. The accident footage used in the fake video was sourced from an unrelated incident in Kakirawa, in which an elephant, not the content creator, was killed after being struck by a vehicle.
