Social Media Posts:
A post circulating on social media claims that 12 government MPs and Ministers have submitted letters raising concerns about the government’s conduct and are preparing to resign.
The post also alleges that these letters were handed to the NPP’s Pelawatta main office, and that if the shortcomings identified by them are not addressed, the signatories are ready to step down from their ministerial or parliamentary positions. The signatories are said to represent the districts of Colombo, Kalutara, Gampaha, Kandy, and Kurunegala, and include several National List members.
The post further notes that the majority are not direct JVP members, but professionals who joined the party through the “Malimawa” alliance.
According to the post, senior party figures have moved to prevent any resignations, arguing that doing so would undermine the public mandate the party received. The post adds that a special committee has reportedly been appointed to monitor the activities of the MPs in question.

We investigated the accuracy of this claim.
Fact Check:
Had 12 MPs and Ministers from the ruling party genuinely submitted resignation letters, it would have made major headlines across mainstream media. Yet no such report appeared in any credible news outlet. With no official sources confirming the claim, we contacted the relevant parties directly.
Presidential Media Division
We reached out to the Presidential Media Division to verify the claim. They confirmed it is entirely false, stating that no minister has made any preparation to resign.
NPP Pelawatta Office
We sought confirmation from the media division of the National People’s Power (NPP) at the Pelawatta party office. They too denied the claim, describing it as entirely baseless.
