The Postal Department announced that the distribution of official polling cards for the upcoming presidential election, which began on September 3, was completed by September 14. Deputy Postmaster General Rajitha Ranasinghe reported that approximately 84% of these cards were successfully delivered. He advised voters who have not yet received their polling cards to visit their local post offices between September 18 and 21 to collect them, while also emphasizing that a polling card is not essential to vote.More Details can be read here Archived

Rohana Hettiarachchi, Executive Director of the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), reassured voters that lacking an official polling card will not prevent them from casting their vote, provided they can present valid identification as recognized by the Election Commission. He noted that the key requirements for voting include being registered on the electoral roll, knowing the correct polling station, and having an approved form of ID.

Hettiarachchi further explained that while the polling card contains useful information such as the voter’s polling station and voter number, it is not a necessity. Voters should not be discouraged if they do not receive their polling card, as it does not pose a significant obstacle to participating in the election.

The 2024 presidential election is scheduled for September 21.More details can be read here Archived
