Recently, we have seen a lot of fake news circulating on social media claiming that actors or actresses have passed away. Many people are still tempted to spread such fake news based on unofficial information when they see them. Below is our investigation into the accuracy of a fake news circulated stating that the veteran actress, Mrs. Airangani Serasinghe has passed away.

Reports circulated rapidly on social media stating that one of the oldest and most prominent actresses in Sri Lankan cinema, Airangani Roxana Meedeniya, also known as Airangani Serasinghe, had passed away.
Fact Check:
Upon investigating the accuracy of this, we confirmed that the news was false and that she is in good health.
We called her home phone number to inquire about this and the woman who was caring for her stated that she had only fallen suddenly and had not suffered any illness and was currently in good health.
Veteran singer Dayan Vitarana had also stated in his official Facebook account that the circulating claims are false. He has also expressed his disappointment towards the circulation of such misleading and false statements. The note is below.

Accordingly, she entered the acting field through the film “Rekhawa” by Mr. Lester James Peiris, one of the most experienced and senior film directors in the country. She played the role of a mother in the film Rekhawa, which was released in 1950. After marrying Winston Serasinghe, whom she met there, she became known as Airangani Serasinghe. Airangani Serasinghe’s contribution to the development of the Sri Lankan film industry is immense.
